Interview of the Official Chiropractors and Team Captain of Team China at Asia Game 2018. 

Drs Li Peng, DC, David Bellin, DC and Eric Chu, DC, MHA, FRCC, ICCSP, have attended the Asia Game 2018 in Jakarta and Palembang as Chiropractors for Team China. Dr. Li was appointed as the Team Captain at multiple water sports competitions of Team China. His duty is managing the multidisciplinary healthcare team included a chiropractors, medical doctor, physical therapist, massage therapist, and athletic trainer.

Members of the healthcare support team were appointed based on the recommendations from the sports ministry, along with their respective levels of sports-care experience and academic training.

China is the biggest winner of Asia Game. Thanks to chiropractic, where the healthcare team were able to help the athletes to perform at their optimal functions in winning the slit seconds of difference. Team China is also the only team who has chiropractor at the athletes village in helping both male and female teams to win the most gold medals.

The multi-disciplinary healthcare team has to dedicate the effectiveness, collaboration, and team spirit; and chiropractor is a great professional leader in putting the team together. The captain needs to put everyone’s strength base on their experience and personality and maximize their expertise and delivers result. Daily morning briefing is a key to understand and facilitate the daily schedule for athletes” said Dr. Li, who also provided care inside the sports ministry for Olympic athletes and Team China.

Dr. Li’s chiropractic sports experience was filled with many highlights, from researching as a post-doctorate at the Physical Education School of Tsinghua University, teaching as visiting professor at the Beijing Sports University, to treating elite athletes at multiple sports teams.

Team China athletes understand the importance of chiropractic, how we help them in injuries prevention, training recoveries, and most importantly, achieving the optimal function of human race.” said Dr. Eric Chu, chairman of Sports Chiropractic Council of Hong Kong China. Dr Chu is an international certified chiropractic sports physician and fellow of Royal College of Chiropractors, who leads the top Spine team handling orphan diseases, including neurosurgeon, sports surgeon, traditional Chinese doctor, and physiotherapist.

Regarding the long term and larger scale of chiropractic at the Team China, Dr. David Bellin, who introduced chiropractic to the sports ministry and established the official relationship, commented, “It was evident that Chinese athletes from multiple sports appreciate having access to chiropractic care. It was very encouraging to see the sports ministry has given budget to chiropractic and incorporated us into the scope of future care.”


Flag Ceremony for the Hong Kong China Delegation to the 18th Asia Game

The 2018 Asian Games, officially known as the 18th Asian Games and also Jakarta Palembang 2018, is a pan-Asian, multi-sport event to be held from 18 August to 2 September 2018 in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang. For the first time, the Asian Games are being co-hosted in two cities. Hong Kong is expecting to send more than 600 athletes to the event, their biggest squad yet for a major games.

2018 World Rowing Cup

The 2018 World Rowing Cup concludes in Lucerne, Switzerland next weekend with the third regatta in the series. This will be the last major opportunity for racing before the all-important World Rowing Championships in September.

Over 600 rowers from 37 nations will be competing across 18 boat classes. Australia comes to their second World Cup of the season with the largest team of 74 athletes. At World Rowing Cup II, Australia won gold in both the men’s and women’s fours.

China is also sending a large team as part of the ongoing growth of rowing in their country which saw the recent hiring of five-time Olympic Champion Sir Steve Redgrave of Great Britain as Technical Director. China had medal success in the women’s four and women’s quadruple sculls at World Rowing Cup II with these boats racing again in Lucerne.

Dr Li Peng DC is the official chiropractor of Team China. He helped all players to achieve the optimal performance in the games.


Marietta, Georgia, April 16, 2018 – In preparation for competitions in the Tokyo
2020 and Beijing 2022 Olympics, Team China has joined with Life University (LIFE)
and its LIFE Sport Science Institute (LSSI) to establish a Chiropractic Performance
Center in Beijing. Spearheaded by Drs. David Bellin (Executive Director for LIFE’s
Global Initiatives), Peng Li (Post-Doctoral Fellow at Tsingua University and LIFE
alumnus) and John Downes (Vice President for LIFE’s Global Initiatives), the
Chiropractic Performance Center will incorporate the protocols utilized for LIFE
athletes in an interdisciplinary facility involving coaches, performance trainers and
other members of Team China.
“It is a great honor to sign this agreement following months of discussion and a
personal visit by the leadership of Team China to our campus and seeing the value
we place on Chiropractic being an essential component of athletic performance,”
says Life University Chancellor Dr. Guy Riekeman. “We look forward to this
opportunity to work with Team China and serve the athletes they are preparing for
LIFE, home to the largest single campus chiropractic program in the world, is well
equipped to open the Chiropractic Performance Center and provide the necessary
care to improve sport performance and injury rehabilitation to Team China athletes
in preparation for both the upcoming Summer and Winter Olympic games.
This announcement follows other recent news from LIFE’s Department of Global
Initiatives after their March opening of the Life University Chiropractic Center in
Kaifeng, China, a city with a metro-area population of nearly 5 million people. The
mission of LIFE’s Department of Global Initiatives is to support the development,
establishment and success of Chiropractic and a vitalistic paradigm around the

Dr Eric Chow, PT DC (CDAHK member/SCCHKC secretary) serves at the The 2017 Summer Universiade (Chinese: 2017年夏季世界大學運動會) in Taiwan.
The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name is a combination of the words “University” and “olympiad”. The Universiade is often referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games.
